Access Riverdale, a registered charity that provides micro loans to individuals wanting to launch a small business or undergo skills training for future employment, is expanding its services and getting a new name.
Initially, the community-based volunteer organization focused on servicing people in the city's east end but is now offering its services to residents from across the Greater Toronto Area.
The charitable organization, which provides loans up to $5,000 through a range of contributors, will now be known as Access Community Capital Fund.
Alterna Bank handles the paperwork and loan administration for Access' clients, who are usually entrepreneurs who have had their business for two years or less or who are just staring a new business.
Its clients may have no credit history or a poor credit record for a variety of reasons. The charity has provided more than $400,000 in loans to small businesses in the last nine years.
A reception celebrating the new name and expanded services will take place Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Gallery 888, 888 Queen St. E. The event will run for 6 to 7:30 p.m.
All interested are welcome to attend.
