I've been e-mailed a number of upcoming spring fundraisers and events that you can attend to support organizations that help animals in need. There seems to be something for everyone so you can laugh, shop and/or walk while you lend a helping hand - or paw - to a furry friend.

The Big Fix - Comedy Night and Auction, featuring Mike Bullard, Judy Croon and Lawrence Morgenstern, the event is being held at the Great Hall, 1087 Queen St. W. at the corner of Dovercourt. All proceeds are going to SpayCentral. Tickets are $37.50 each. Visit www.spaycentral.com.

Saturday, May 24

PAWS annual spring garage sale at Lynngate Junior Public School, 129 Cass Ave., in the gymnasium, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds are to help the many cats who come into the shelter. Ontario SPCA Friends for Life Walkathon is taking place at Richmond Green Park, 1300 Elgin Mills Rd. E., in Richmond Hill. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 11 a.m. Dogs are not required in this event, with proceeds going to shelter and animal cruelty prevention. Saturday, May 31

Slobberfest is taking place at the Boathouse at the foot of Leuty Avenue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Among the offerings are a parade, contests, Ask the Vet, barbecue lunch, pet vendors and dog pictures. Proceeds are going toward Community Centre 55. Visit www.centre55.com then click on Events.

Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8

Woofstock dog festival at St. Lawrence Market. The Rescue Me Walk on Sunday; registration is 9:30 a.m. with the walk starting at 11 a.m. from Berczy Park. Proceeds help more than 20 canine rescue groups. Visit www.rescuemewalk.com.
