The union representing social workers, psychologists and youth workers in local public schools has agreed to a new four-year collective agreement with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), it was announced today.

Members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation-Professional Student Services Personnel (OSSTF-PSSP) will be receiving increases to their salaries and benefits in each of the next four years.

“The agreement with OSSTF-PSSP will enhance student safety as a result of expanded professional support for vulnerable students and to continue focussing on improved student success across the city,” said Gerry Connelly, TDSB director of education.

The board also ratified a new four-year collective agreement with the Maintenance and Construction Skilled Trades Council, which includes increases to salaries and benefits in each of the next four years.

The agreement also provides for an increase in the number of coop students placements in the TDSB as well as an increase in apprenticeship opportunities.

“With these four year agreements, the TDSB moves another step closer to a period of labour stability and improved student success and it also reflects our commitment to continuing positive relationships with our employees,” said John Campbell, board chair.

Meanwhile, on the elementary front, it was announced that the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, without a contract since Aug. 31, would be holding a press conference downtown on Monday morning.

Education Minister Kathleen Wynne had given the ETFO a Sunday deadline of to accept the government's latest offer.

The ETFO represents 73,000 elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province.
