Re: 'City changes concept for proposed bike lanes in response to community uproar', Article, May 22.

'Community uproar?' There should indeed be a community uproar over the lack of any real community consultation over the proposed Annette Street bike lanes.

There was one - barely publicized - "open house" held, at which the opinions of some Annette Street businesses dominated. Certainly, these businesses are an integral part of the neighbourhood, but to suggest that their voice somehow represents 'the community' is not only inaccurate, but deeply offensive to those of us who have not had yet had the chance to speak. How can Councillor Saundercook seriously suggest that a compromise has been reached when only one voice has been heard?

In fact, a final decision has not yet been made on the Annette Street bike lanes. The question will be considered by the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee in early June and later by City Council. Time is short but your voice can still be heard. We urge people to contact Councillor Saundercook today.
