An alternate route for loud rambling tractor trailers to travel in and out of a Dwight Avenue produce warehouse long-awaited by neighbouring residents is now a go.

Gambles Ontario Produce Ltd. completed its environmental assessment (EA) a few months ago of lands to be conveyed to the city to construct a north-south truck-dedicated laneway behind it and York Chicken Wholesale Ltd., Gambles' lawyer John Ward said yesterday.

York Chicken completed its EA last year.

"It's now in the city's hands," Ward said. "We've co-signed (with York Chicken) the deed conveying the property to the City of Toronto."

Some neighbouring Mimico residents complain noise from the 53-foot long Gambles trucks on Dwight Avenue has been unrelenting since the company opened its warehouse two years ago.

Neighbours reiterated their concerns, including new safety concerns, earlier this week after a garbage truck traveling on Dwight Avenue struck a house on Vanevery Street.

There were no injuries. A damage estimate is pending. Repairs to the house are expected to take a month.

Initial reports indicate a mechanical problem with the garbage truck's steering.

A spokesperson for area councillor Mark Grimes (Ward 6, Etobicoke-Lakeshore) said yesterday the tender process, for businesses to bid build the truck road, is now closed. The bids are currently being evaluated.

City engineering and legal staff will soon confirm the timeline for the conveyance to be built and become operational, the spokesperson said.
