Local schools on track for OFSAA
Double gold medal winners lead the way

Local high schools finished in the medals at the Metro regional track and field meet held at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke last week.

Top finishers from this meet, attended by Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board schools, as well as area private schools, qualify for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) provincial championships which are being held in Hamilton from June 5 to 7.

There were two double gold medal hauls.

Megan Beverley of Leaside High School won both the junior women's 800 metre and 1500m events.

Tristan Lewis-Vu of Eastern Commerce Collegiate won both the junior men's long jump and triple jump.

A gold-bronze combo was served up by Gareth Everard of Marc Garneau Collegiate in 400m (gold) and 800m (bronze).

Single gold medals were earned by:

- Adelaide Johnson of Riverdale Collegiate in senior girls 800m;

- Nathan Goodfellow of East York CI in midget boy's long jump;

- Emma Spelt of Leaside in midget girl's 800m.

Leaside's 4x100 midget girls relay team earned a silver medal.

Bronze medals were earned by a couple of Leaside runners, Morgan Rammo in junior girl's 1500m and Heather Kinsey in midget girl's 800m.
